Corpus Christi Procession 2020

We helped with the Corpus Christi procession again this year.  We are old pros now.  It was windy and a vase paid the price, so maybe not old pros after all!

 

I Killed My Computer

 So, I killed my computer.  I fried my system board.  Then I bought a new computer, learned how to change out a hard drive, and thanked God for a good friend who walked me through the whole process.  I can't say that's the whole excuse of why I haven't posted anything.  It was September's excuse, along with school, work, and teaching a Confirmation class.  August's excuse was 30-60 hour work weeks and canning, plus starting school mid-August.  July's excuse was gardening, prepping for school, and work.  It boils down to I've been busy and my computer paid the price for my "hurry up and just get this crumb out of the way, oops". 

Hopefully I can find the time this fall to catch up on posting our lives.

Neighbors Moved a Couple of Miles

Peter and Mauri had their trailer house closer to their new place, which is a couple of miles away.

It was a pretty neat experience watching a house move down the road.

It was almost "home" at this point.

Quail

We are trying an experiment this summer.  It involves quail that decided to not thrive.  We lost half of the hundred we ordered within a week.  They got chilled during shipment.  The rest have been fighters.

They were SO small!  The crazy thing was that they were "flying" within a couple of weeks.  It made it hard to water and feed them without one or two getting out.

They grew quickly, but were still tiny compared to chickens.

They have a beautiful song and are very pretty game birds.

Kittens

About Mid June we got to meet the kittens who were under the shelter.  Momma Dora brought them to us with a look that said, "Human, they are yours now.  Feed them."

This is Adorable and the only girl of the bunch.

This little one is Swiper.  Like, Swiper no swiping, Swiper.

This bad boy is Boots.  He's a handful!

June 6th Gardening and Storm

Blase grew some vine plants for me in the greenhouse.  They didn't survive the hardening process outside, but it was still worth a shot. 

Cormac was working in the lower garden while the rest of us were working in the upper garden.

The upper garden is mostly for the chickens and our vine plants.  They are not doing so well.  I think it is because we haven't worked the ground much.  It was a last minute decision.  I'm sure next year's go around will be better.

We were busy planting as this storm came upon us.  Within a couple of minutes the wind picked up.  We lost a roof off a shed and part of the sheeting on the shelter in the yard.  Things were blowing away left and right...including the seeds that Rex was carrying back to the house.

No worries!  I braved the harsh weather to save the precious seeds.  What a crazy start to the garden.

June 6th Storm

I have found that one of my very favorite things to do is stand outside before a storm comes and take pictures.  One of these days I'll take pictures of the beautiful blue South Dakota sky.  These are pictures from the June 6th storm.  We've had a lot of storms lately, so watch for more amazing pictures.  Amazing in my opinion...
