On October 9th our friends, the Tiefert's, took us to tour a cranberry bog. It was more exciting than I expected and far more educational than any of us would have guessed.
Ready to learn about this little fruit?
First fact we learned - cranberries are hollow. That is why they float.
The kids played different parts in a science lesson our tour guide gave us.
Cormac was the Glacier - moving the land and preparing it.
Evelyn (our friend) was the dirt that was just perfect for growing cranberries.
Brech was "Water Man Batman".
If you look closely you can see the cranberries flying off the plant.
** Cranberry fact - cranberry plants last over 50 years without replanting.
Gianna was the beautiful, warm sun.
Add in all of that with a very busy bee named Rex....
and you have a perfect environment for growing cranberries
**Cranberry fact - Cranberry starts cost $6,000 an acre.
**Cranberry fact - Over half of the world's cranberry supply is grown in Wisconsin.
In the tour bus ready to head back to the office!
