Ingalls Homestead, DeSmet SD

Our last South Dakota stop was to the town of DeSmet for some Laura Ingalls Wilder education. The kids are eighth cousins to Laura through their Grandma Bestgen's side of the family.

We visited the Ingalls Homestead and experienced some hands-on fun.
movie to introduce the area
Pictures from on top of a tower.

Twisting hay like in one of the books.

Grinding grain with a coffee mill.
Making corn cob dolls.

Horse and wagon ride

School!

The best worker on the place.

Making jump ropes for everyone.

This is the surveyor's house the Ingalls Family lives in.

We drove by the statue of Fr. DeSmet in town. What an amazing priest to have the town named after.
